Today is “The Day of Cher.”  One of my favourite days of the year.  A tradition I started about 2 years ago and enjoyed so much that I have vowed to continue.  Allow me to explain.

Today is my birthday.  Yeah, yeah, Happy Birthday, blah, blah, blah.  Whatever.  By this age, birthdays have kinda lost their luster (except for the cake part – that’s always welcome.  And if you want to throw me a gift – I’ll take that too) but I do use my birthday as an excuse to take a day off work.  A legitimate vacation day, I may add.  On a weekday when both boys will be at school and the Husband will be at work.  All occupied and out of the house for approximately 8 STRAIGHT HOURS!!!  Which means that I can do whatever I want for those full eight hours, without worrying about running home to feed someone, or get them to a sports activity, or getting stressed out just knowing that they’re all at home – likely messing the place up – and calling my cell phone every hour wondering when I’m coming home.

No, no.  Not today my friends! (she sings in a cheery voice) Today I have 8 uninterrupted hours ALL TO MYSELF!  What a luxury!  So here’s my plan for the day;

  • get everyone off to school and work – buh bye, love you, see ya tonight!
  • meet good friend and fellow Scorpio Sister who I don’t get to see often enough for breakfast.  I LOVE going for breakfast but rarely get to do it.  Food prepared by someone else.  Dishes cleaned up by someone else.  Copious amounts of coffee delivered right to my cup.  Sigh . . . heaven
  • go shopping.  For what you ask?  Well, for whatever I damn well please, thank you very much!  I might check out those Lee jeans that were on Oprah the other week (cause the CJ’s are out of my price range), perhaps a new laptop messenger bag (courtesy of a gift card) to carry back and forth to work, hopefully a new blush, and likely some browsing around a Chapters with some sort of latte.  Oh, and if I’m not too full from the breakfast, perhaps a Chicken Pad Thai – medium spice please – for lunch.  All at my leisure.  Because I can do that today!
  • then this afternoon I’ll be checking myself into the local spa for a much needed facial (courtesy of my darling Husband!).  Something I try to do a mere 2 times a year.  But due to aging and very dry skin, I should probably do it more often (yeah, right – that’ll never happen).  But by dinner time tonight my face will be soft, smooth, plump and hydrated.  And I will be relaxed.  Sooooooo very relaxed.  Neither the hydration nor the relaxation will last long, but I’ll savour both while I have them.
  • then home to my loved ones for dinner, a comfortable pair of jammies (oh – maybe I’ll buy a new pair of those today too!) and a relax on the couch.

Now THAT is “The Day of Cher”!  Honestly – does it get any better?

Okay – your turn.  If you had a day all to yourself . . . What would YOU do?

    Popping in from SITS to say Happy Birthday To You!

    Enjoy every moment of your eight hours that you have. My birthday recently past and I had a “Pamper Me” Day! I went to the salon and had my hair done, got my manicure & pedicure, went shopping for an outfit. I loved it! These are things I never do. Hubby got a sitter for our four mini me’s and we went out to dinner and dancing! I had a blast! Won’t happen for another couple of years… Ugh!
    Well, you’ve given me an idea for next year! Thanks!
