I’ve been sick this week.  Not pukey.  Not feverish.  Not snuffly.  More of a dry hacking cough.  Exasperated by a bit of asthma.  And wrapped up in a big blanket of phlegm.  That never ends.

It’s not the type of sickness that has kept me down, or away from work.  Nope.  No rest for the wicked – or my coworkers.  But it certainly has kept me from sleeping.  There’s something about a pillow and a dry hacking cough that just don’t go together.  The two seem to morph into frequent recurrences of  “The Late Night Hack Attack” which invariably has me awake and coughing uncontrollably several times a night.

If I’m going to get sick – this is ALWAYS the sickness I get.  There must be a name for it.  There must be a cure for it!  Dear God – isn’t there a cure?!  Because it’s REALLY getting on my nerves.  And my family’s.  Because The Late Night Hack Attack isn’t exactly quiet.  And it results in a game of musical beds so that I can be somewhere by myself in the hopes of limiting the number of people I wake up.  Even though misery loves company.  Especially in the middle of a sleep-free night.

I do find sleeping in an upright position helps the cough slightly but not the neck.  And I haven’t found a cough medicine yet that’s strong enough to stop it for the full night.  Got any suggestions for me?  I’ll take them.  I’m launching a full out “Stop the Hack Attack” campaign.  I’ve got shopping and wrapping to finish.  No time for sleepless night.  All ideas will be quickly accepted and implemented.  Results to be published at a later date.

    Two words…simply sleep.

I take it because I can’t sleep….ever. So take that and some mucinex – I can’t take that stuff though, BAAAAAD acid trip with that I mean, side effects as it counterracts with other medicine I am on.

    But that should work.

Take all that and call me in the morning.

    1 (800) GO-SLEEP

    xx

Hycodan cough syrup! You need a rx for it though. It’s an anticholinergic and narcotic cough suppressant combo. The anticholinergic works by drying up secretions and the narcotic depresses the cough reflex in the brain and also gives you a lovely night’s sleep! Honestly, it’s great stuff and really works.

This sounds like Pneumona. My daughter just had that and acted normal but hacked all night long and had trouble breathing…better get an x-ray miss! Hope you feel better….sounds like some antibiotics are in order….:(

that SUCKS. i hate it when that happens. yeah, i’d get some nyquil. drink it right before bedtime and if you wake up in the middle of the night, drink more. that does it for me anyway…

nyquil knocks me out and keeps me out, but then again, I’m super sensitive to medicine….chardonnay does the trick too sometimes :) feel better love!

Sorry, I can’t help you. I am not familiar with this ailment, let alone its cure.

Get well soon though. That’s all I can do for you.

ok, I can’t remember who told me this. Maybe Christina from Too Pretty For This? She said to soak your pillow in Southern Comfort, let it dry out and all ailments go away. Or something. I don’t know. Let’s have you be the guinea pig of this one, ok?

Cough medicine with codeine is the only thing that helps me when I get that bad. You might need an antibiotic and a steriod. Better see a doctor.

Go ahead - leave me a comment. I dare you.
