So I’m sure you’re all dying to know the conclusion to yesterday’s rambling mattress post, aren’t you. Aren’t you?! Awww – C’mon! Humour me, will ya.
Did she sleep? Did she like the new mattress? Was it a big fail? Come closer cyber friends, and I’ll finish the tale . . .
Bedtime approached with both apprehension and excitement.
Apprehension like “crap – what if I hate it?! I’ll be sentenced to bad sleep for years to come!” And for the record – The Only Girl REALLY likes and REALLY needs her solid 7-8 hours a night. Or else there’s big trouble – particularly for her family. And there’s very little patience – for everyone and anyone.
And excitement like “OMG! I can’t WAIT to try out my beautiful new mattress tonight! I think I just might have the BEST sleep ever!”
And so the countdown to bedtime began. Tick. Tick. Tick.
And when the time was right, up the stairs I went. Step. Step. Step.
My teeth got brushed, my face got washed, I applied copious amounts of facial moisturizer and finally, my mouth-guard was inserted (nightly teeth grinding is starting to have some dental implications for The Only Girl).
Ready.
And so I jumped in. And I do say “jumped” because this new mattress is high with a capital “H”! The old one was high, but this one is even more so. In fact I think The Youngest might have to take a running jump just to get into it. And I should probably be careful getting out of it in the morning when I’m all half asleep, or I could seriously hurt myself on the way down.
But it was good. Sooooo good. And my back did not hurt in the morning. Nor did I awake in a deep saggy crevice. In fact I was still very, very comfy.
On the “Comfy Scale” Willie only gave it a 4 out of 10. But I’m sure that was just to piss me off. I, on the other hand, will award the new mattress a 9 out of 10. The only negative comment I have is the extreme height. But I’m sure I’ll get used to that.
So – for now – I hesitantly declare the mattress selection a big fat WIN! But watch yourself, Kingsdown Mattress people, I’ll be re-evaluating in 6 months.
And yes, as predicted, Willie did suggest a “breaking in”. Unfortunately my bedtime preparation routine took too long and he fell asleep. Or was it the very comfy new mattress? I guess we’ll never truly know.

Yay!!!! good girl, I’m glad you love your new mattress. It really is a win win situation for everyone!!!!! If getting good sleep is going to make the world a nicer place for your family(which I am part of) then bring it on!!!! We all love the funny “only girl” not the cranky, have no patience for anyone girl (notice how I stopped at cranky, have no patience) I could have gone on you know, but given that I alway sleep like a baby, I am never cranky, and always have lots of patience for everyone!!!! Now I gotta go, it is 4:47 am and my Bloody Mary isn’t going to make itself, now is is????? Cheers!!!

Woohoo! A comfy matress, I’m glad you were pleased after all the stressing and anticipation. We used to have a really high matress and I quite liked it.
Sorry about my comments yesterday, thanks for emailing. I recently changed to Disqus and I’m giving it to the end of the month as a trial. I really like it but I’m worried it will put people off.

Kingsdown!!! Why didn’t you say so in your first post. I could have told you I have a Kingsdown. I’ve owned it for four years. I’ve blogged about how much I STILL love my bed. That’s right, after four years of ownership I still look forward to crawling into it at night.
No sagging at all. And you’re right about how high they are. You’ll get used to it.

I can’t tell you how happy I am to hear that! Although I was slightly worried when I started reading your comment – till I got to the ‘love my bed’ part.
Did you just hear my big sigh of relief? Thanks for your endorsement!

Kingsdown, huh? I’ll have to remember that. I have one of those memory foam beds. I like it but need a new mattress for the guest bedroom.

I would only be concerned if Willie DIDN’T suggest breaking it in.
I’m so glad it’s everything you wanted it to be!!!

Good. Glad to hear the mattress is a good one.
So. I have to ask. Do you ever use the old “Not tonight honey, I have my mouthguard in” excuse?

I personally like high mattresses. The higher the better. Or maybe step ladder height is okay.. If I have to reach for an ACTUAL ladder to climb into bed every night, that might be a bit too high.
Glad you got a good nights sleep though. Here’s to many more!

new mattresses are a bitch of a trick. You never know what you’re really getting till a good 2 months in.
