May 11

This week the Husband is away on business – for 4 days and 3 nights.   A situation which propels me into reluctant, albeit temporary, single mom status for the week.  While preparing for said week, I decided to focus less on the cons, and more on the pros.  Which, of course, required a “Pros vs Cons” list.  Fortunately that happens to be one of my most favourite lists to make.  And I make a lot of lists.

This is what I came up with;

Pros

Cons

I regain full control of the TV remote and get to watch whatever shows I want

The boys will get very sick of HGTV, “Say Yes To The Dress”, Glee & Oprah

I get to serve all the meals that I like

The boys may be very hungry this week.

Also – no BBQs.

The house will be strangely quiet – and tidy

There will be no one home to open difficult jars, change light bulbs or mow the lawn

I’ll get the whole bed to myself

The boys will know that I get the whole bed to myself and will likely climb in with me at some point through each night

There will be no bedtime funny business

There will be no bedtime funny business

I can blog all evening, every evening without feeling guilty

I may get tired of blogging

There will be no ball hats or worn sports socks strewn about the house

I will have to take out the garbage and recycling on my own
Less stinky smells in the house Less laughter in the house

The boys will not be riled up at bedtime due to impromptu wrestling matches or tickle fights

I’ll have to wrangle the boys into bed by myself

I get to leave work a little early so I can pick the boys up from the sitter on time

I get to spend my evenings chauffeuring the boys around to their various sports events

Two words – granny panties! I have to listen to him tell me all about the great free meals he’s enjoying

As there’s no clear winner, I’m going to just go ahead and call this one a “draw”.

Hurry home Honey!  We miss you already.

Do you love it or hate it when your significant other is out of town?  What’s the one thing you like to do the most when left on your own?

I have a love/hate relationship with my husband’s business trips. I like the short ones, the longer ones are torture.
My favorite thing to do? Eat. And eat often. It’s a coping mechanism. Or nachos are just THAT delicious. Either way.

–>Your list is SO true. My husband will be out of town for a few nights next week and I’m looking forward to it and dreading it for all the same reasons. You left one off, it makes you both appreciate each other more when he returns. ;-)

Since I don’t have kids, if the hubby is gone our place is very quiet. It’s ok for a day, but after that I start to panic….mainly because I don’t cook. I worry I will starve to death or gain 100 lbs eating only fast food.

I used to love when Chris was away. before kids. That meant it was all mememememememe. but now that just means I have do everything myself. bummer

I always get tired of listening to my hubs tell me about the free steak and lobster dinners he gets while he is out of town on business! It really isn’t fair! He gets steak and lobster and I have to take care of everything around the house myself?

Can you tell it makes me a little bitter?

My Big Fella never goes out of town…..I WISH he would!!!! (is that wrong?)

M has to go away on business once or twice a year and I don’t really mind it. It’s nice to have the bed to myself with no snoring, etc., and the bathroom stays really clean. But I also get bored. And nervous about criminals breaking in.

    CherNo Gravatar Replied:

Damn! I forgot to mention “no snoring = no earplugs” and that means happy ears and happy sleep.

Awww, you guys are adorable! How old are your boys?

This picture is about a year old now, but it’s one of my favourites. We all crammed into a photo booth at the mall!

Right now my Youngest is about to turn 7 (in 2 weeks) and my Eldest will be 10 in July.

Oh, I just hate it when Jason is gone. I sleep horribly… imagining that every little sound is surely someone coming in to stage a home invasion because they must know that my husband is gone. Which is incredibly unrealistic, but i think it all the same.

PRECIOUS photo of you and your guys. :)

Firstly, I love that pic of you and your boys! You are all so friggin’ cute!

Second, my hubby never goes away, thank God. I’m pretty sure my pros and cons list would be almost exactly the same as yours though!!

manfriend works overnight, so i get the benefits of having the bed to myself, as well as the perks of having him home during the day to take care of recycling and lawn mowing! it’s a pretty good deal.
although sometimes his nights off do feel a little infrequent…there are sometimes i like having a warm body in bed with me :)

Aura and I get a lot of “girls’ nights.” I do love the reduced pressure on dinner prep, but it is a lot of….mothering. Damn kids and their NEEDS.

The joys of being single… I’m all pro’s and no cons. It’s great. Really.

Some of the cons were fantastic.. although I think tests have been done and it’s not scientifically possible for someone to get tired of blogging, which gives you one less con and makes the pros win.

That can’t be good news for your husband.

When my husband is away, my favorite pro is making whatever I want for dinner. The “grown up” is sometimes the pickiest eater.

    CherNo Gravatar Replied:

    Amen sister!

I do enjoy a quiet house when the hub’s away, sigh.

But speaking of snoring, after 20 years of snoring like a chain saw, my husband got diagnosed with sleep apnea–which I’d been telling him he had, for years–and now sleeps silently thanks to a cpap machine. And he feels much more rested. No more ear plugs! No more dragging my pillow downstairs to sleep on the sofa! No more urges to stab him in the throat!

I used to dread it, but my hubby was out of town in Feb. and I secretly loved every second. I sat under that laptop and ate Chinese food and it was heaven — until I really started missing him. :)

Go ahead - leave me a comment. I dare you.
